Alight Media has opted to support a local charity, Hapus Wales, through providing free advertising space on Alight’s new screen in Llandaff North, Cardiff as well as equipment for the garden opposite.
Hapus Wales is a small charity that creates work and community-based opportunities for people with additional needs and mental health issues in the Cardiff area.
One of these opportunities is working on the plot of land alongside Alight Media’s screen. They have taken a plot of wasteland and made it into a colourful garden area which the local community is delighted in. This is something they enjoy, providing a sense of accomplishment and wellbeing whilst learning gardening skills. The charity also runs a shop just opposite where beneficiaries have a chance to gain valuable work experience which they might not be able to access otherwise.
Alight Media are proud to be donating garden equipment to the community garden as well as helping to raise awareness via its fast-growing national OOH network which engages a quarter of the adult population, every fortnight, through more than 1,500 OOH advertising sites.
Lisa Green, Business Development Manager, Alight Media, said:
“We are really pleased to be working with and supporting Hapus Wales, who provide such fantastic opportunities and support for their beneficiaries, involving them in the community and including them in the everyday life of the local area.
As for the garden on Station Road, the Charity’s beneficiaries have done a wonderful job making it look beautiful. You can see how much pride and passion they have in their work, which helps build their confidence and teaches them valuable skills. In addition, the garden brings joy to the community and is brilliant for the environment, attracting bees and other insects.
Moving forward, we want to continue to support Hapus Wales and help them to provide support to even more people with additional needs and mental health issues that live in the community.”
Rebecca Moore, Manager of the Hapus Wales Charity shop, added:
“Residents and business owners in Llandaff North have been very welcoming from the start, this is a very close-knit community and we wanted to give something back. Some of the individuals who come to us have a keen interest in gardening and so it seemed like an ideal opportunity to provide them with a project of their own and at the same time give something back to the locality.
We must thank Lisa and the team at Alight Media for their help which will be invaluable in helping us keep this project going.”
