Justdiggit has been our international charity partner for the last three years and we are proud to help them make a difference in cooling down the planet by regreening degraded land and bringing back vegetation. Having visited Justdiggit’s base in Tanzania in 2023, this year two of our green team representatives, Dave Huckerby, our Co-founder and Mila Johnson, our Development and Operations Coordinator, recently visited Nairobi and Kimana in Kenya to gain a deeper understanding and experience first-hand the brilliant work they are doing.
Over the course of four days, they learnt about the seed bank and bund (semi-circular trenches) projects which included: seed collection, storage and planting processes. A hugely important part of the work Justdiggit do is educating and working with communities to ensure the projects are upheld for both their benefit and the environment’s.
Dave and Mila met with two Maasai communities managed by women, who arrange the collection of native seeds and the building of bunds to capture rainwater and restore degraded land. The work positively impacts the environment and economy by improving water retention, restoring ecosystems and wildlife whilst helping women earn income from selling the seeds and hay to sustain livestock.
